Pomona woman fights off knife-wielding man who entered insurance business

A Pomona woman didn't hesitate to fight when a man entered her insurance business, showed her a knife and demanded money.

The incident was caught on security camera. Police are hoping somebody recognizes the guy in the video and turns him in before he can hurt anyone else.

Connie Escalante was working Saturday at Ale insurance when a man whom she talked to earlier came back with something other than insurance on his mind.

“He pulled out the knife right away he said ‘nothing’s going to happen just give me the money,” Escalante told FOX 11.

Connie quickly tried to get the knife away from the man. She wrapped her legs around the would-be robber and then grabs his leg. He’s still able to move toward her desk, where there’s cash.

“He grabbed me by my hair so I pulled him by his t-shirt, I was able to get some of my fingers in his eyes,” she added.

The two tussle as he tries to get bills into his pocket. At this point he’s trying to get out, but she continues to go after him.

“I never say no to a fight as bad as that sounds. It’s not my first so it wasn’t that dramatizing I guess.”

Connie survived with a couple of injuries and police say she was very lucky. Meanwhile she says when a client pays her that money will go immediately into a safe and the office doors will be locked.

If anyone has information on the suspect they are urged to contact the Pomona Police Department.
