Robbery, shooting leaves Culver City jogger in critical condition

A man is fighting for his life after he was shot and robbed during his late-night jog in Culver City late Wednesday night, police said.

The Culver City Police Department said a man was jogging when he was approached by a suspect who robbed and assaulted him around 11:15 p.m. near the intersection of Washington and La Cienega boulevards.

Despite taking the victim’s cell phone, headphones, and potentially other items, the suspect shot the victim for an unknown reason in the upper leg, police said.

The jogger, identified only as a 34-year-old male, started to bleed excessively.

The victim was transported to Cedars-Sinai and was rushed into emergency surgery.

Officials said by Thursday morning, the victim was out of surgery. He remains in ICU and is listed in critical condition.

Health officials said he is expected to survive.

Witnesses said they saw a man jump into a car that was waiting for him. The vehicle was last seen going southbound on Reid Avenue.

A description of the suspect was not immediately released.

Detectives were expected to canvass surveillance footage in the area Thursday.
