'Stand By Me' Singer Ben E. King Dies At 76
(FOX 11 / FOX News) R&B singer Ben E King, best known for his 1961 hit "Stand By Me" has died of natural causes, his agent confirmed to FOX411. He was 76
The soul singer rose to fame in the 1950s as a member of the Drifters and produced hits such as "There Goes My Baby" and "Save the Last Dance For Me."
He began his solo act and quickly climbed the charts with "Stand By Me" which was later used in a film of the same name starring River Phoenix in 1986.
Fellow singer Gary U.S. Bonds paid tribute to King on Facebook.
