State Senators vote on Aliso Canyon moratorium

Thursday morning, State Senators voted to ban the injection of new gas into 18 Aliso Canyon wells.

They say they don't want SoCal Gas to be able to withdraw gas from wells similar to the one leaking until they're all ruled safe.

The bill also proposes if other wells are found unsafe, they should be shut down and proposes state officials should study the consequences of shutting the entire facility.

The vote now goes to the assembly.

The vote comes as a relief to poodle owner Diana Friese. Both her poodles have eye infections and she says she can't find a place to move.

"My big standard poodle is throwing up. And the doctor, the vet told me if I don't move, she could die because of the respiratory illness and I can't let them out of my home to exercise," said Friese.

Not just dogs are feeling sick, so are people.

High schooler Cheyenne Washington was used to competing on the soccer field or tennis court. But when we found her Thursday morning, her battle was on a bench.

"It's like a pounding, a throbbing, and sometimes it's just more annoying constant headache that will stay for a couple hours and it makes it hard to concentrate through school," says Washington.

The 16-year-old doesn't know if the gas leak is to blame, but her parents aren't ruling it out. They're trying to get air purifiers, scheduling MRI's and considering moving from their Chatsworth home.

While residents look to leave, businesses struggle to get people to stay.

Hairstylist Maria Milanes says she used to see up to ten customers a day. Now, it's as few as four.

She's frustrated staying, but fearful to leave and start over.

"It's kind of a double edge sword, I don't have much of a choice," said Milanes.
