Suspect sought who tried to sexually assault 80-year-old woman

Police today asked for the public's help in identifying a man suspected of severely beating and attempting to sexually assault an 80-year-old woman in her Hollywood apartment.

The attacker entered the victim's retirement complex near Hollywood Boulevard and Ivar Avenue in the early morning hours last Saturday, took an elevator to an upper floor and knocked on the victim's door, according to the
Los Angeles Police Department.

When the woman opened her door, the man pushed his way in, attempted to sexually assault her, severely beat her and then fled, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

The suspect is described as a black man between 25 and 30 years old, about 6 feet tall, weighing about 220 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

On surveillance video taken the night of the crime, the suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with "PENN STATE" in white letters on the front, black baggie jeans and black shoes.
