Suspicious device discovered in bushes in West LA neighborhood

Police investigated a suspicious device found near a Ralph's grocery store in West Los Angeles Friday afternoon.

LAPD officers and the bomb squad responded to the area of Stoner Avenue and Mississippi Avenue shortly after 2 p.m.

The immediate area was closed off for the investigation.

LAPD said a student walking home discovered what appeared to be a battery wrapped in black electric tape with a wire attached to it in the bushes on Mississippi Avenue mid-block between Stoner and Barrington.

An LAPD robot was sent in to inspect the device and just before 4:30 p.m., police determined the device was not a threat to the public.

No further details were immediately known.
