Touching video shows elderly man with Alzheimer's singing his heart out with son
(FOX 11) - "Tell me Quando, Quando, Quando..."
A heartwarming video going viral online shows an elderly man with Alzheimer's disease singing along with his son in the car - and not missing a beat.
Ted McDermott was diagnosed with dementia in 2013 after a long career as a singer and entertainer, the Mirror reports. According to son Simon 'Mac' McDermott, he started working in a factory when he got married and continued to sing on the side.
"His nickname is The Songaminute Man - simply because of how many songs he knows," Simon writes on Facebook.
But during the last few years, Ted's memory has "deteriorated a lot." Simon says that his father often doesn't recognize him as his son.
"It's a horrible illness."
In the heartwarming video, father and son are seen driving around in the car and singing their hearts out to the song "Quando, Quando, Quando."
The video quickly went viral with more than 3.2 million views since being posted July 30.
"Now when we've got him singing again he's back in the room," Simon says. "It's these moments that we treasure."
Simon is also hoping to raise money to fund the work of the Alzheimer's Society -- specifically to go towards "paying for a person at the end of the phone line to help other people like us."
