DACA Dreamers join Black Lives Matter rally to share important message

With over 80 thousand Dreamers estimated just in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, you know the Supreme Court’s decision not to dismantle DACA would reverberate in the city.

In what’s definitely a sign of the times though, a rally in DTLA by the Don’t Look Away Collective merged the Dreamer reaction with the Black Lives Matter message, saying they want to change the narrative.

"No longer should the “story” be the 3.5 GPA overachieving Latino who got here as a toddler and is doing amazing things,” one organizer said at Thursday's rally.

Not that the story isn’t valid, they add, it’s just not representative or inclusive. Immigrants come in all colors, races, and lifestyles.

“When you say defund the police, it also means defund ICE” one added, and DACA isn’t enough - they want legalization of Dreamers, but also their families - and immigrants in general.
