Man wounded in suspected road rage shooting on the 10 Freeway in El Monte

A man was hospitalized Thursday morning in stable condition with a gunshot wound suffered in a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting on the westbound 10 Freeway in El Monte.

A possible road rage incident about 10 p.m. Wednesday may have prompted the shooting, which occurred between the 605 Freeway and Santa Anita Avenue offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Several rounds struck the victim's vehicle, a white Honda CHR, but the victim and her passenger were initially unaware the vehicle had been hit, the CHP said.

Video from the scene showed bullet holes in the rear passenger side door of the Honda.

The victim chased the suspect's vehicle, described as a white Ford pickup truck with at least one suspect inside, onto the Temple City Boulevard offramp in Rosemead where the suspect turned east on Loftus Drive and sped away. The victim lost sight of the suspect in the 3600 block of Baldwin Avenue in El Monte, the CHP said.

The driver of the Honda stopped the vehicle on Baldwin Avenue north of Loftus Drive and discovered bullet holes to the passenger side of the vehicle and that her passenger had sustained a gunshot wound to his right side. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition, the CHP said.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or knows the identity of the shooter was asked to call the East Los Angeles CHP office at 323-980-4600.
